A conversation with Dr. David King

This morning I received an email from Dr. David King. Dr. King is a lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. As ShadaKalo reported in his excellent post last night, General Moeen U Ahmed attended Dr. King’s class on Election Reform on Monday. The class consisted of 9 of Dr. King’s students.

Financial statement confirms Trust Bank loan

E-Bangladesh has confirmed that General Moeen U Ahmed’s Taka 99,69,215 loan amount at the end of 2005 that is stated in the Trust Bank prospectus is consistent with the loan amount stated in the bank’s 2005 financial statement. The audited financial statement for 2005 available on the Trust Bank website indicates that loans to directors of Trust Bank at the end of 2005 was Taka 10,974,435. This is the same loan amount indicated on page 20 of the Trust Bank prospectus.

August 21 attack: Mufti remanded

[Dhaka Correspondent] Mufti Mohammad Hannan, a leader of banned Islamist outfit HuJI, B (Harkat-ul Jihad al Islami Bangladesh) and his three associates were placed on a 10-day police remand Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on August 21 in 2004.

ACC appeals to interrogate Hasina

[Dhaka Correspondent] ACC (Anti-Corruption Commission) Monday appealed in court to interrogate detained former prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina in jail in connection with the Taka 3-crore corruption case filed against her and six others on September 2. Morshed Alam, a deputy director of the ACC, also the investigation officer of the case, filed the appeal with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka and sought its permission for interrogation, “We need to question the former prime minister for the sake of investigation of the case.” The court is likely to pass an order in this regard Tuesday. If permission is granted, Hasina is likely to be questioned at the makeshift jail sometime this week.

AL to participate in EC dialog

[Dhaka Correspondent] Awami League Monday decided to participate in the dialog with Election Commission on electoral reform scheduled for November 4. AL central working committee took the decision at a meeting at the party chief’s Dhanmondi office which also authorized the acting president, Zillur Rahman to finalize the list of the delegation for the dialog, meeting sources said.
